Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 Trailer

I had the opportunity to work on "Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 Trailer" for Plastic Wax. The team was working in real Lego size scale in 3DS Max, so this was an especially unique challenge to make everything look big in a small world. I did all the explosions, sparks, lego debris as well as the retimed explosion. I also did the closing title Dr. Strange Portal.

I started with the Dr. Strange Portal making a FumeFX portal sim with Particle Flow and then had Particle Flow geometry follow the FumeFX sim. This was lots of fun as I tried to get as close to the real sim from the Dr. Strange film.

I then moved to creating the main opening explosion in FumeFX in 3DS Max and adjusted the variables in order for the sim to go from slow speed to regular speed without using the retime exporter. We were looking to get a Star Wars type of explosion, smokey and filled with sparks. I did the sparks in Thinking Particles and was able to retime them as well with no problems. The Lego debris was also done in Thinking Particles, this allowed me to get the right rigid body dynamics without worrying about interpenetrating the ground.

This was one of my favorite projects I've ever worked on so far in my career. Super Heroes and Lego! I'm ecstatic to work with the talented team at Plastic Wax and amazed to see what we were able to turn around in such a short amount of time!
